![]() | Ingredients: 700g Pale Malt, 230g Amber Malt, 12g Golding Hops, Ale Yeast Packet, granulated sugar. Equipment: 7 litre pan, measuring jug, sieve, weighing scales, 8×500ml bottles with caps (such as pop bottles), sterilising agent. Useful, but not essential: syphon tube, thermometer, 2g Irish Moss (helps reduce the cloudiness of beer). |
![]() | Heat 4 litres of water to 72oC and turn off the heat. Measure the malted grains and stir into the water thoroughly. Cover and leave to stand for 90 mins. This is called the mash. If you can, check the temperature occasionally and heat gently if it falls below 60oC. If you haven't got a thermometer add 1¼ litres of tap water to 2¾ litres of boiling water to get 4 litres at 72oC. |
